When you ask the average person what an oil pastel is, the typical response is “a mixture of oil paint and soft pastels.” When you say “oil pastels” to most artists they think “crayons” because their first exposure to them is with a student grade version. Misconceptions abound. The truth is:
- Oil pastels are not geared for the standard painter
- Oil pastels are dynamic, vivid, versatile and extremely forgiving
- Oil pastels will expand your range of artistic expression
The medium is geared for those who love to work with their hands. You mush, squash, push and blend with your fingertips. You carve, scrape and cut away with your palette knife. Though open to all levels of experience, this two-day workshop assumes the student has a basic working knowledge of oil pastels. Three basic techniques will be reviewed prior to launching into the project. The Project: Landscape. Please bring a reference photo to work from. www.turneronlinegallery.com
