Everything I know about painting still lifes came from figure drawing. The first classes I taught at Scottsdale Artists’ School were gesture and figure drawing classes. I believe that everything you need to know about painting any subject can be learned and taught from figure drawing, and that is what this class will be about. We will be working directly from live models. Students are welcome to work on figure drawing, still life painting or both. The main topics covered will be drawing with a pencil and perhaps more importantly, with a brush. We will cover my palette, how to use toned paper and how it leads to toning a canvas.
