This workshop will be a combination of in studio and plein air, weather permitting. In this class, our primary focus will be on learning to “see” while understanding “why” we make art. We will discuss seeing values accurately, what information to omit when planning a painting, reflected light and color, and the benefits of directional mark making for compositional purposes. Using students’ own reference material, we will look for ways to reduce information, simplify values, and train your eye to look for reflected light and color. There will be demonstrations in pastel on a specific topic, followed by guided personal exploration of said concept. Please bring reference images that are your own and that have good clear light and shadow patterns. www.TaraWill.com
