This class will merge the knowledge of the fundamentals of classical landscape painting as a foundation, combined with the understanding of the basic principles and elements of abstraction in order to loosen up. Pushing one’s landscape paintings with a variety of mediums and tools as a way to control and explore beyond the basics, as well as heavy analysis on modifying design and composition to push outside the obvious. Beginning with emphasis on mark-making, color theory, color notes, and sketches, and ending with demonstrations and discussions on the pursuit and struggles of a larger scale painting. Experimenting with Cold Wax Medium as an addition to oil paint will be covered in order to add texture, layering and mark making. cgroves.com
