Join renowned painter Adrian Gottlieb for an immersive three-day online class focused on the art of painting portraits in oil. Designed for intermediate-level artists, this workshop offers in-depth instructions on key techniques and principles to elevate your skills.
Day 1: Begin with a "drawing in paint," where Gottlieb emphasizes composition, proportion, structure, and expression to establish a strong foundation.
Day 2: Blocking in colors to create the “big impression" while developing an understanding of color harmony, temperature and values.
Day 3: Refine your painting by modeling forms to capture a convincing likeness, along with the light and atmosphere that bring portraits to life.
Throughout the class, Gottlieb will provide guidance on the canons of proportion, head construction, color theory, palette organization, and the use of mediums. Students will work from the same reference image used in the live demos, with one week between sessions to advance their paintings to match the level of finish demonstrated by the instructor.
This structured and hands-on approach will help you build confidence and mastery in portrait painting all while mastering timeless techniques that consistently deliver stunning results.
