Julio Reyes

Biography

Julio Reyes earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing with a minor in Sculpture from Laguna College of Art and Design in 2005. After graduation, he married his art school sweetheart and dove headfirst into a life of art making. Through skillful craft and exquisite handling, Julio shares his unique and passionate vision in painting, drawing and sculpture. His work often depicts intimate dramas; brief moments of unnoticed grandeur, tender souls grappling with the pressures of modern life. At the age of 28, Julio won Best in Show, in the 2010 ARC Annual Salon Competition – The Art Renewal Center’s top honor. In 2011, Reyes had his debut solo exhibition at Arcadia Gallery, in New York. The following year, he was awarded the prestigious William F. Draper Grand Prize at the Portrait Society of America’s 2012 Annual Portrait Competition – making him one of only two artists to have won the highest honor at both major American art Competitions. His work has been featured in dozens of books and magazines, exhibited in multiple countries and museums, is collected all over the world, and has been awarded the highest accolades given by the Portrait Society of America, the Art Renewal Center, the California Art club and more.  Julio's long term gallery representation is Arcadia Contemporary, NYC, and he regularly exhibits with other galleries throughout the US and internationally such as Galerie Fledermaus, and the Paintguide and Supersonic shows.  Some notable collectors of his are Director M. Night Shyamalan, Hell Boy comic artist Mike Mignola, and his work is in the collection of New Salem Museum.  He recently relocated to Texas with artist and wife Candice Bohannon, where they welcomed their three children into the world. He is represented by Arcadia Contemporary, NYC.
