Huihan Liu


Born in Guangzhou, China in 1952, Huihan completed his formal art training at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art with a BFA in 1975. There, he instructed from 1979-1987. Huihan was a candidate and was accepted by the Graduate School of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art in 1985. He went to the United States of America to further his study in 1987 and graduated from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco with an MFA in 1993.

Huihan’s art is influenced by 19th academic of French and Russian school which was brought to China art school in the 50s。He gave highly regard for the group of Naturalists who has academic tradition but portrayal of scenes from ordinary life in the late 19c。Those inspiration took him to many trips in different region in the world. He wants the painting as culture bridge to connect the people; to share the joyful moment and the compassion with others.

Huihan’s painting can be considered impressionistic realism, combination of primary field study and reference, focus on compositional arrangement; color design, accurate detail; spontaneously brushstrokes and texture. In his figure painting, he pays closed attention on the characteristic people, gesture and atmosphere in suggesting meaning underneath of the piece.

When he was in China, he had been participated many show exhibition both in regional and national. Since Huihan moved to the United States, he has been participating in many national shows and invitational exhibitions. His paintings have won many awards such as “Best of Show in Painting-John Scott People’s Choice Award,” in Western Rendezvous of Art; “Gold Medal for Best Painting”, in California Art Club’s 92nd Annual Juried Exhibition; Gold Medal for the Master Signature Division at the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Show; Members’ Choice Award for The Master Signature Division in Oil painters of America National Exhibition. Huihan’s work was featured in articles by Art of The West magazine; Southwest Art magazine; The International Artists Magazine and The Artist’ Magazine
