In this workshop, students will practice blending a range of various strokes and colors to illustrate abstract backgrounds. They will experiment with color combinations that express harmony, control lighting effects by adjusting value range and create transparent shadows with the subtle intermingling of cool and warm hues. Students will also focus on color properties, unifying objects with multiple transparent glazes, and softening or hardening edges to strengthen a focal area. Printed set-ups include sweets, seasonal fruits, and reflective ceramics. The theme is “High Tea”. Some experience with basic stroking techniques is helpful in addition to owning a large set (75 sticks minimum) of soft pastels.
