This workshop will focus on developing drawing skills for representational portraits and explore the dry medium. Students will learn the key concepts of portraits as well as the fundamentals of drawing. Over the course of five days, the instructor will teach and share her knowledge of portrait drawing that includes the techniques of charcoal and other dry mediums like Da Vinci’s Red Chalk and monochromatic/limited colors of pastels. The class will focus on how to build a strong foundation for portrait drawing in Charcoal medium in the beginning of the week and develop to the earth tone drawing provides a sentimental yet unique, strong feeling that appeals to the nature of figures and portraits. The goal of this workshop is to experience different ways of using different mediums to give you an opportunity to discover your own passion for portrait and find your best medium for your own style. This workshop is good for the artists who want to expand their painting from black and white drawing practice to tonal drawing or who feel the need for more foundational skills to enhance their overall artistry. During the five days, students will have 30 to 60-minute sketch sessions and four to six-hour drawing sessions with live models.
