Every landscape painting has its challenges to go beyond ordinary. How the artist thinks, plans, and executes the scene has more to do with success than the view to be painted. This class covers design ideas that will make the evaluation and arrangement of elements easier. Problem solving and choices made while selecting and developing a strong focal area early in the process are critical and will be addressed. Ways to create more interesting value contrasts for better light and shadow patterns will be explored, along with using the color wheel to create effective color schemes that will work for each student. Good color and composition are essential to attracting and retaining the viewer’s attention. Students will see first-hand how their paintings can become better, more pleasing, and even more interesting! The instructor will present information through discussion, demonstration, and visual supports. Personalized instruction and helpful critiques will be provided to accommodate each student’s painting style.
