From Plein Air to Studio
Learn how to go from several small outdoor studies to one large studio painting in one workshop. This five-day workshop will teach students how to collect useful information in the field – by sketching and painting on site, and with a digital camera – and then how to use their references to produce a bigger painting in the comfort of the School’s studio. Day 1 and 2: Students will spend time in the Tonto National Forest sketching and painting together. Day 3: Students will watch as Thomas executes a large painting in the School’s studio using field references, clearly explaining his methods and techniques and answering questions. Day 4 and 5: Students will have two days to work on a large painting in the School’s studio with Thomas’ assistance.
