Alla Prima Portrait Painting, an Extended Study

Alla Prima Portrait Painting, an Extended Study

Few things are as enchanting as a portrait painted in “The Grand Manner”-direct, loose, and realistic. This type of painting is typically completed “Alla Prima”, or in one session. One of the great challenges with mastering alla prima is learning the process and the timing of each step, as well as completing it with accuracy and looseness. Utilizing a special process, students in this class will extend the length of time their painting takes to dry, allowing them to slowly master each step of the process while working the paint wet-into-wet over the course of several weeks. Students will watch the instructor demonstrate at the beginning of each class, then attempt to execute the same steps with the remainder of each session. By the end of 5 weeks, students will have a clear understanding of how to successfully approach an alla prima portrait with bravura! www.reesfineart.com
