All About Color – Concept, Perception and Usage
Students have the option to take just the three-day color boot camp Monday-Wednesday.
It’s never too early or too late to learn more about color! In this workshop, students will explore color theory and color mixing. They will learn about individual pigments, their place on the palette, as well as paint transparency and opacity. The workshop will emphasize identifying the value, intensity and temperature of color. Other topics addressed will include color perspective, concepts for creating the illusion of space, mixing techniques, the illusion of transparency, and mediums that create color effects. Most of the day will be spent seated at tables in a hands-on learning environment, mixing hypothetical color combinations and ranges. The goal is to study a practical way of developing and thinking about discovery and invention in color mixing. Students will acquire concepts to fill their color needs, which through use will become fluid and subconscious. On Thursday and Friday, students will paint simple still life objects from life and learn to see, conceptualize, and produce the colors they desire, reinforcing the concepts and techniques covered in the first three days. www.diehlfineart.com
