QUESTION: Does Scottsdale Artists' School sell art supplies?
ANSWER: The school has a small retail area and sells art books and a limited amount of art supplies including oil-primed panels, turp, some paintbrushes, paint, aprons, and other materials.
QUESTION: What is the School's cancellation policy?
ANSWER: Cancellations must be in writing and sent to the registrar by letter, email or fax at least thirty days prior to the start of a workshop or seven days prior to the start of a weekly class. For workshop cancellations, your $100 deposit will be held as a credit to be used as a deposit on another workshop in the current year.
QUESTION: Is the School equipped with Wi-Fi?
ANSWER: Yes, feel free to bring your laptops for free online access in the building.
QUESTION: Is Scottsdale Artists' School equipped for disabled students?
ANSWER: The school is wheelchair accessible. All studios, restrooms and public areas can accommodate people with disabilities.
QUESTION: Is Scottsdale Artists' School an accredited art school?
ANSWER: No, students do not earn credits toward a degree through our program.
QUESTION: Do I need to bring my own easel to class?
ANSWER: The school provides easels, drawing horses, tabourets, and sculpture stands. However, if you are enrolled in a plein air class, a portable easel will be required.
QUESTION: What supplies will I need for my class/workshop?
ANSWER: A detailed supply list will be mailed to registered students. Supply lists are also available on-line as a part of the course overview on the registration page.
QUESTION: Is there an art store nearby?
ANSWER: Yes. Two of them, Utrecht and Arizona Art Supply both deliver to the School. (When placing orders with Utrecht, be sure to use the School discount code 89101!) If you wish to purchase sculpting supplies from Ball Consulting, be sure to request to have materials delivered to the school on the first day of your workshop. YOUTH ACADEMY
QUESTION: May the parents call the instructors directly?

QUESTION: Is there a classroom management program?
ANSWER: Yes, all students will participate in setting up "agreements" on the first day of class in order to create a fun learning atmosphere that inspires the student's creativity.
QUESTION: Will students be given breaks?
ANSWER: Yes, there will be several short, energizing and inspiring breaks throughout the day, as well as a snack break, and lunch break. Students ages 6-8 will have additional time to play "art games."
QUESTION: What if a student has never taken an art class before?
ANSWER: The program is designed to build confidence and educate students of all skill levels.
QUESTION: Are there scholarships available for Youth Academy?
ANSWER: Partial and full scholarships are offered to Youth Academy students throughout the year. We strive to help as many of our students as possible based on their enthusiasm for the arts and their need for financial assistance.
QUESTION: Are there Open Studio Sessions available for Youth?
ANSWER: Saturday classes offered by Youth Academy provide an opportunity for students to have Open Studio time with an instructor or they can participate in a guided activity.
QUESTION: Does Scottsdale Artists School offer art classes for high school students?
ANSWER: Our Youth Academy offers fine arts training to help high school students build their portfolio during Saturday classes and throughout the summer as well as during the fall, winter and spring break.
QUESTION: Do I need to pack a lunch for my child in Youth Academy?
ANSWER: Yes, students are required to bring their own lunch with an ice pack, a snack and a bottle of water.
ADULT PROGRAMS
QUESTION: I am just starting out with art, where do I begin?
ANSWER: Drawing is the foundation for most mediums, so we recommend starting out with a basic drawing course. If you want to jump right into another medium, look for the Beginning level classes. Call the school and one of our staff members will be happy to help you choose a class that best suits your interest and skill level.
QUESTION: Can I ship my supplies from the School? How do I get my art home after my workshop?
ANSWER: You may ship your supplies to the school before your course begins. Please be sure to label your package clearly with your name and the name of the instructor teaching the workshop, and we will hold your package for you to retrieve the morning your workshop or class begins. Afterward, you may ship your supplies home using UPS. Check at the reception desk for details.
QUESTION: What if I want to fire my sculpture while in Scottsdale?
ANSWER: Arrangements may be made to fire and ship your sculpture home. Check at the reception desk for details.
QUESTION: Are scholarships available?
ANSWER: Yes, scholarships are available to students based on both financial need and merit. Apply using the process outlined on the scholarship application, which can be found on our website.
QUESTION: Do I need to rent a car?
ANSWER: If you are coming to Scottsdale for a plein air workshop, transportation is required (unless you make prior arrangements to carpool with someone in the class). Several downtown hotels are within walking distance of the school. There is also a free trolley that runs throughout Old Town Scottsdale.
QUESTION: Where should I stay in Scottsdale?
ANSWER: Several hotels offer our students preferred rates. A list of those hotels can be found under our Partners section of the website and will also be provided to students in course confirmation materials.
QUESTION: What is there to do after class?
ANSWER: SAS is within walking distance of countless restaurants, bars, galleries and shops. Artwalk, which occurs every Thursday night, is a long-running tradition in Old Town Scottsdale when the local galleries stay open into the evening. Many students attend this event with their classmates and instructors. Many of our instructors show at some of the galleries in the Artwalk!
QUESTION: What if my workshop is cancelled?
ANSWER: Occasionally workshops or classes are cancelled because of enrollment or issues affecting the availability of the instructor. If your workshop is cancelled, you will be notified at least 30 days before the start of your workshop, or at least 7 days before the start of a weekly class. You will receive a full refund upon cancellation.
QUESTION: Is there a cafeteria at the School?
ANSWER: No, but the school does have tables and chairs in the southeast wing of the school and a lovely outdoor patio that students are welcome to enjoy during lunchtime and breaks. You can pack your lunch and leave it in the student fridge in the kitchen.
QUESTION: Is there an inexpensive way to get from the airport to the hotel or School?
ANSWER: Several of our partner hotels offer airport shuttle services. You may also contact Super Shuttle at (800) 258-3826.
QUESTION: Where can I keep my supplies while in my class/workshop?
ANSWER: We have lockers available for students to secure their belongings. The locker fee is $5.00 and locks are available for an additional $10.00 deposit, which will be refunded when you return the lock. Please ask for a lock at the front desk.
QUESTION: How do I fly with paints and supplies?
ANSWER: Check the TSA website for the latest regulations regarding traveling with paint and other art supplies.
