Scottsdale, AZ (January 2, 2008) “It’s a marriage made in art heaven!” That’s how newly-elected President of Scottsdale Artists’ School, Larry Charles, describes the up-coming four-month series of weekend painting and drawing workshops for beginning art students being conducted at the Phoenix Art Museum by SAS’ professional artists.
“Where else can young adults get such a unique learning experience about the world of art but at one of the nation’s finest museums, where art education abounds and where top-notch professional artists from one of nation’s finest schools of traditional art can teach them the abc’s of drawing, oil painting and printmaking?” Charles asks.
The Phoenix Art Museum and Scottsdale Artists’ School joined forces to test the concept last year. “We wanted to attract young beginning artists, and the turnout was sensational,” Charles said. “We had the largest sign-up for any SAS workshop in the School’s twenty-five year history, and we have even higher hopes for the series of classes we’ll be holding for young adults who want a hands-on introduction to art.”
In all, SAS artist-instructors will conduct five weekend workshops in the studios of the Phoenix Art Museum, including:
January 12-13, “Fun with Printmaking,” with Red Rohall teaching;
February 2-3, “Beginning Drawing,” with Larry Charles teaching;
February 16-17, “Getting to Know Color,” taught by Susan and Doug Diehl.
March 8-9, “Introduction to Oil Paining,” with Carrie Curran teaching;
April 5-6, “Drawing the Head,” with Robert Tracy Schacht teaching.
Weekend fees for each of the two drawing workshops are $150 for Phoenix Art Museum members or $180 for non-members. Weekend fees for all other workshops are $170 for PAM members or $200 for non-members. All workshops are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm weekdays and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturdays. Admission is free and open to the public. Scottsdale Artists' School is located at 3720 N. Marshall Way in the Scottsdale Arts District (SW corner of 2nd Street and Marshall Way). Free parking is available in the school's parking lot
