POSITION PROFILE
The Executive Director for the Scottsdale Artists School is a full-time, salaried position.
The Executive Director is responsible for the operation and management of the Scottsdale Artists School and will oversee the operation of the Schools various education and fundraising programs. The Executive Director will provide leadership and guidance to assist the School in achieving its plans and objectives delineated in the Strategic Plan. These responsibilities include direct interaction with artist instructors, students, and donors. The Executive Director raises funds, cultivates donors, creates community partnerships, locates sponsors, and manages the operational revenue for the School. The Executive Director has direct supervisory authority for support staff and reports to and implements policies enacted by the Board of Trustees.
Founded in 1983 and currently located in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona, the Scottsdale Artists School is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Scottsdale Artists School is a community-based art instruction institution, which offers artistic instruction for all levels of students from youth and amateurs to professional artists. With a focus on representational art, the Scottsdale Artists School enjoys a national reputation for its workshops and quality instruction. Many of the Schools students and instructors come from across the country.
The Scottsdale Artists School is dedicated to artistic enrichment of the community and to developing the capabilities of artists and aspiring artists of all ages by teaching the applied fundamentals of fine art.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS
The Scottsdale Artists School offers a wide variety of education programs, including:
- On-site, multi-day workshops
- Off-site, multi-day workshops
- Weekly class instruction (classes held once a week for several weeks)
- Youth Academy Programming (including summer camps, Underground Art Club for
Teens, and Saturday classes)
- Lectures and Demonstrations
The Scottsdale Artists School is engaged in the community through arts-centered events and fundraisers. The Scottsdale Artists Schools primary fundraisers are its Beaux Arts miniatures auction and the Best and Brightest student exhibition and sale. The Scottsdale Artists School participates in the Scottsdale Art Festival and the Celebration of Fine Arts, among other events.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience with financial statements, financial reporting, and budgets
- Excellent written and verbal (public speaking) communication skills
- An entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the arts
- Experience in the area of arts management or arts education
- Strong work ethic and organizational skills
- Experience with fund-raising and development in a non-profit environment
- Past management experience
The preferred candidate will have a bachelor of arts or higher in areas involving both business and art as well as 3 to 5 years experience in a senior executive role with prior management experience.
The Executive Director is responsible for:
- Implementation of the Strategic Plan
- Fiscal management to operating budget
- Hiring, supervision and motivation of staff
- Representing SAS at events, functions and meetings
- Working with and reporting to Board of Trustees
- Facility management
- Primary liaison between SAS and community
- Maintaining and developing new revenue sources
- Fundraising
- Developing sponsorships and strategic partnerships
The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Trustees to keep them apprised of the Schools performance as it relates to the budget and implementation of the Strategic Plan. The Executive Director will implement the Board of Trustees approved policies and directives.
The Executive Director will also be responsible for ensuring the financial viability of the organization through diversified fund development, hosting special events, and introduction of new and creative fund-raising strategies.
The Executive Director is offered a salary in the $65,000 - $75,000 range (depending on experience) plus health insurance, vacation, and sick leave.
