David A. Leffel is known as a “twentieth century Old Master" for his mastery of the chiaroscuro technique. Under the influence of the great 17th century Dutch Masters, especially Rembrandt, his work reflects a personal belief that a picture must convey a sense of mystery and beauty. Leffel has had one-man shows from New York to Santa Fe and numerous awards, including gold medals from the National Academy of Western Art, Allied Artists of America and the National Academy of Design. He has taught at the Art Students League of New York for many years and has a strong following as a teacher and lecturer. He is the author of the well-respected book, An Artist Teaches.
