Stephen Mancusi has been a forensic artist since 1984. He was the senior artist and Detective First Grade in the New York City Police Department for over 26 years. Mr. Mancusi is the author of the book, “The Police Composite Sketch”. His expertise encompasses all the forensic art disciplines. He has developed composite sketches with countless victims/witnesses for all types of crimes resulting in the identification of many criminal suspects. These included such high-profile cases as: 9/11 World Trade Center Terrorist Attack and Central Park Wilding Assault Case. In addition to his work for the NYPD, Stephen has developed forensic images for other law enforcement and governmental agencies including the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, NYC Medical Examiner's Office and U.S. Postal Inspections Service. He is presently the chairman of the International Association for Identification’s Forensic Art Certification Board.
A professional artist and illustrator for 35 years, Stephen’s skills encompasses a variety of media including acrylics, pastel, pencil, oil and digital graphics covering a wide range of subject matter for a diverse group of clients. His artistic portfolio includes prints, book jackets, portraits, magazine illustrations and figure drawing. His paintings and sketches have been exhibited in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the prestigious Salmagundi Art Club and many other New York City galleries.
As an educator, Mr. Mancusi actively teaches and lectures on forensic art. He conducts training workshops for artists of police departments throughout North America. He has addressed many groups from varying disciplines including the Mystery Writers of America, Society of Professional Investigators, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the NYPD Detective Bureau's Investigative workshops.
Stephen has been featured in articles in The New York Times, London Sunday Telegraph, Evidence Technology Magazine, AM New York and The New York Daily News among others. He has appeared on ABC's 20/20, NBC's Unsolved Mysteries, Court TV, Discovery Channel, Pro 7 German Network, the Australian Seven Network’s Sunday Night, Good Morning America, NPR, National Geographic and the History Channel's MysteryQuest. His drawings have appeared in all major New York newspapers as well as local and network TV news programs.
