This workshop will focus on the elements of shape, value and color in creating an expressive portrait painting. The morning will start with a demonstration by Allen where he will talk about facial structure and proportion followed by a very specific exercise designed to help students better understand pastels and the relationships of color, value and shape. In the afternoon students will work from the model and apply the principles discussed in the morning. For more advanced students, there will be discussion on creating more beautiful paintings through the manipulation of edges and value/color. Allen will work individually with each student to help them find solutions to their problems. Allen’s thoughtful and positive approach will guide students to create more successful paintings. www.allengarns.com
