On Location in Idaho – Simplifying the Elements (DESTINATION)
During this workshop, students will be under the instruction of Robert Moore for a week of on location painting. The variety of ‘plein air’ painting locations around Declo, Idaho is virtually unlimited. The quaint and very paintable town of Albion and the alpine environment of the 9,265’ Mount Harrison sit just to the south while the Snake River and southern Idaho farmland border us on the north. Students will enjoy a great time of growth and fellowship as they study the landscape with design principles in mind and with the parameters of ordered color palettes. Students will be encouraged to identify and simplify the masses while focusing upon dynamic shapes and what makes up a good shape. They will have access to Robert’s 10,000 square foot studio and gallery for critiques, after hours painting, and in the event of inclement weather. The Studio has ample floor space, good ventilation, excellent heating and cooling, and natural north light. Instruction will include the in depth application of Robert’s “Ten Suggestions” of self-critique. This will include value control, color, composition, shape hunting, and transposing the landscape into clearly communicated information. Be prepared for an intense and memorable destination workshop experience.
