This workshop will focus on techniques in painting the effects of light on form in various situations resulting in masterful paintings. The “how to’s” in achieving dynamic and impressionistic paintings using painterly brushwork will be demonstrated daily. The still life, landscape and introduction of the figure in a painting will be covered throughout the workshop. Color relationships, values, edges and temperatures of light and shadow will be discussed.

Massing and organizing darks and lights, understanding atmospheric and linear perspective and using a value sketch will also be covered. Students will receive individual instruction handling challenging aspects of the acrylic and watercolor mediums along with daily critique sessions. How to manipulate edges in acrylics and control the fluidity of watercolor while incorporating the loose, impressionistic approach will be understood with great results. Students will experience exciting painting techniques, develop a personal style in artistic approaches and gain inspiration and enthusiasm for future paintings.
