Learn to paint landscapes in the most direct way possible using alla prima techniques developed by Sargent, Sorolla, and Zom. Turn your small outdoor studies into larger more developed paintings. This five day workshop will show you how to sketch, paint, and photograph out in the field, and how to use those references as guides to produce more carefully considered work in the comfort of your studio.

Workshop Itinerary: Day 1 and 2: Class draws, paints, and photographs as a group in the Tonto National Forest. Day 3: Class watches as Thomas executes a large painting  in the SAS studio and explains his methods and techniques and answers questions.   Day 4 and 5: Students spend two days working on a large painting in the SAS studio with assistance from Thomas. This workshop is ideal for the beginner-to-intermediate painter. Some experience painting outdoors is recommended.

Portable easel and transportation required. *Students will need to purchase park passes.
