Description: iPad painting is not painting on canvas with paint and there is no reason to digitally fake the “look” or physical experience of oils, acrylics, or any other medium. That would be a waste! There is an astonishing opportunity to paint with light in a way that gives presence to color as nowhere else. Nowhere but on the iPad can I create the same appearance of color. The biggest question is: why would I even try to emulate the physical look of paint? It is like driving a Ferrari as if it’s a Honda. Digital fingerpainting is an innovative, fast, brilliant and enticing way to paint and draw. It is what it is and it does not pretend to be what it is not. One of the perks of painting and drawing on the iPad is a strange sense of forgiveness and permission to be inaccurate, sloppy, childish and playful and isn’t that what we are all looking for when creating in the first place?
