Description: This workshop will feature both short and long pose charcoal drawings using the figure model. Different techniques, including composition, values, form, line, shape and massing will be introduced and practiced in class. Students will also be encouraged to find their own way of seeking beauty from each pose, and interpret what they find with their personal artistic approach instead of just copying.

Description: In this combined figurative charcoal and oil painting workshop, students are introduced to Timothy Rees’s unique and energetic approach to tackling this most challenging of subjects. Students will spend the first day learning the materials and a logical approach to drawing the figure. With many demos and one on one instruction, they will learn how to handle many challenges that will arise in the figure painting process. The second and third day will have workshop participants painting a single long pose after a demonstration of materials and process. Students will learn how to see and organize the complexity of the figure into a manageable subject, all the while composing their painting into a beautiful work of art.
