Course Title: Creativity Expressed through Sculpture
Course Meets: 03-18-2013 - 03-22-2013
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Tuition: $635 + $35 Model Fee/ 5 Days
Description: The value of art is elusive, so how do artists increase the perceived value of their art? This workshop will answer many questions that artists face: financial expenditure, galleries, creative and personal enjoyment, financial security, and how to combine distortion, abstraction and realism to increase the power of their work just as Michelangelo and Rodin did. Anatomy, composition, negative space and understanding of form will be stressed. Besides creating a wonderful work of art in the class, the primary goal will be to analyze the intangible aspects of the creative process. Although students will have the opportunity to work from a live model, they will be free to explore any subject, because the creative principles will remain constant, regardless of subject or direction. True creativity is reminiscent of childhood play, so plan to enjoy this week...I know I will.

Course Title: Unraveling the Mystery of the Portrait in Clay

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Tuition: $685 + $35 Model Fee/ 5 Days
Description: What gives a portrait a sense of dignity, vision or humor? What makes it look more like the person than a life cast? The elusive likeness is not so much about accuracy as it is about studied observation of the uniqueness of a form and how to render it. Unlocking the mystery is simply knowing how to look (see). The class will do three heads: large hollow terra cotta or life size solid terra cotta, small head (caricature) and a relief. Students may choose to focus on one or two of the portraits and opt out of another. Typically there are two models. Students may also choose to work from their own photo reference.
