Description: Have you ever wanted to be able to draw? “Being a good draftsman” means being able to accurately reproduce what you see onto paper. This is a technical facility which can be learned with practice and attention. Being a good draftsman is a vitally important skill for a representational artist. We’ll explore several ways to draw in this four-week class and introduce important concepts, including: how to use basic drawing tools; contour, light and shadow and the illusion of three dimensionality; copying drawings “from the flat”; drawing from three-dimensional simple geometric shapes (cube, cylinder, sphere etc) using a single light source; drawing a still life; drawing people, including the basics of drawing the human head or the figure. The focus will be on developing each student’s skills, occasional demonstrations will be given.
