Does Scottsdale Artists' School sell art supplies?
The school has a small retail area with select art supplies. We carry RayMar and SourceTek panels, odorless mineral spirits, sketchbooks, and other materials. We also have Scottsdale Artists' School aprons, tote bags, and other merchandise for sale. In addition, we have a wonderful selection of books and DVD's by our instructors and other master artists. Because we are a non-profit organization, retail items do not include sales tax!
What is the school’s cancellation policy for Workshops?
All cancellations must be made in writing. If you cancel more than forty-five (45) days before the start date of a workshop, the School will retain $100 of your deposit as a cancellation fee and keep $100 as a credit in your account until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2016. The credit may only be used towards another workshop or weekly class. If you cancel forty-five (45) days or less before the start date, you will forfeit your entire tuition. There are no refunds for no-shows or for withdrawal after a workshop begins.
What is the school’s cancellation policy for Weekly Classes/ One Workshops?
All cancellations must be made in writing. If a student cancels more then seven (7) days prior to the start date of a weekly class, the School will refund the tuition paid, less a $30 cancellation fee. If a student cancels seven (7) days or less before the start date the student will forfeit their entire tuition. There are no refunds for no-shows or for withdrawals after a class begins.
Is the school equipped with wi-fi?
Yes, feel free to bring your laptops for free online access in the building.
Is Scottsdale Artists’ School equipped for disabled students?
The school is wheelchair accessible. All studios, restrooms and public areas can accommodate people with disabilities.
Is Scottsdale Artists’ School an accredited art school?
No, students do not earn credits toward a degree through our program.
Do I need to bring my own easel to class?
The School provides easels, drawing horses, taborets, and sculpture stands. However, if you are enrolled in a plein air class, a portable easel will be required.
What supplies will I need for my class/workshop?
Supply lists are available online as a part of the course overview on the registration page. If you need one mailed to you, please contact the school.
Is there an art store nearby?
Yes. Blick and Arizona Art Supply both deliver to the School and are within 5 miles of the School. If you wish to purchase sculpting supplies from Reynolds Advanced Materials, be sure to request to have materials delivered to the school on the first day of your workshop. I am just starting out with art, where do I begin?
Drawing is the foundation for most mediums, so we recommend starting out with a basic drawing course. If you want to jump right into another medium, look for the Beginning level classes. Call the school and we will be happy to help you choose a class that best suits your interest and skill level.
Can I ship my supplies from the School? How do I get my art home after my workshop?
You may ship your supplies to the School before your course begins. Please be sure to label your package clearly with your name and the name of the instructor teaching the workshop, and we will hold your package for you to retrieve the morning your workshop begins. Afterward, you may ship your supplies home using UPS. Check at the reception desk for the form and details. We also carry RayMar wet panel carrier boxes in various sizes, which allow you to safely transport wet paintings.
What if I want to fire my sculpture while in Scottsdale?
Arrangements may be made to fire and ship your sculpture home. Check at the reception desk for the form and details.
Are scholarships available?
Yes, scholarships are available to students based on both financial need and merit. Apply using the process outlined on the scholarship application, which can be found on our website.
Do I need to rent a car?
If you are coming to Scottsdale for a plein air workshop, transportation is required. Several downtown hotels are within walking distance of the school, some even provide free shuttle transportation. There is also a free trolley that runs throughout Old Town Scottsdale.
Where should I stay in Scottsdale?
Several hotels offer our students preferred rates. A list of those hotels can be found under the Useful links/Resources section of the website. Logistics information for Destination workshops can also be found there.
What is there to do after class?
SAS is within walking distance of countless restaurants, bars, galleries and shops. Artwalk, which occurs every Thursday night, is a long-running tradition in Old Town Scottsdale when the local galleries stay open into the evening. Many students attend this event with their classmates and instructors. Many of our instructors show at the galleries in the Artwalk!
What if my workshop is cancelled?
Occasionally workshops or classes are cancelled because of enrollment or issues affecting the availability of the instructor. If your workshop is cancelled, you will be notified at least 30 days before the start of your workshop, or at least 7 days before the start of a weekly class. You will receive a full refund upon cancellation.
Is there a cafeteria at the School?
No, but we do offer a concierge lunch program with local restaurant Arcadia Farms. You may pre-order your lunches prior to arriving here at the school. They will be delivered to you each day. Also, the school does have tables and chairs in the southeast wing of the school and a lovely outdoor patio that students are welcome to enjoy during lunchtime and breaks. You can also pack your lunch and leave it in the student fridge in the kitchen.
Is there an inexpensive way to get from the airport to the hotel or School?

Where can I keep my supplies while in my class/workshop?
Workshop students can securely keep their gear in the studio overnight. Studio's are not occupied in the evenings by other students/classes, and are locked each evening. Note: While the school makes every effort to secure the studios, it is not responsible for property or valuables left.
How do I fly with paints and supplies?
Check the TSA website for the latest regulations regarding traveling with paint and other art supplies. Shipping supplies ahead of time helps avoid the hassle of flying with art supplies. Flying with odorless mineral spirits is prohibited, but we do carry Gamsol and Turpenoid here at the School for those who are flying in.
