Qiang Huang

Biography

Qiang Huang (pronounced Chong Wong.) was born and raised in Beijing China and he now lives at Austin, Texas. His interest in art was developed when he was very young, and influenced strongly by his uncle, Hong-En Huang, a professional painter and art educator.  

 

For various kinds of reasons, he did not get opportunity to study art in any professional art institutions. He studied science and technology instead. He moved to America in 1985, obtained the Ph.D. in physics in 1993, and took a career in optical engineering. However, he has been active in local art communities. To further develop his artistic skills, he has attended classes and workshops. In the summer of 2012, Qiang has attended the graduate school of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Qiang’s paintings show remarkable accuracy and expressive brush strokes 

 

Qiang is a Signature member of the Oil Painters of America. His paintings have been selected many time for the OPA National Juried Exhibitions. He has received: “Still Life Honorable Mention Award” on the 20th and 24th OPA National, “Still Life Award of Excellence” on the 22th OPA National,  

“Impressionist Honorable Mention Award” on the 23 OPA National. 

 

His painting has been shown at the Virtuosos of OPA Exhibition in 2015.  He was the demo artist for the 25th OPA National and 2016 Plein Air Convention. 

 

Qiang has participated many plein air painting competitions. He has received:

  • “Honorable Mention” Award at Door County Plein Air Invitational, 2021  
  • Best Sense of Mystery” Award at Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, 2022 
  • “Best Paint Quick” Award at Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, 2022 
  • “Best Architecture” Award at Wayne Plein Air Festival, 2022 

 

Qiang has been teaching painting workshops on since 2008. Utilizing his training in the technical fields, Qiang’s teaching is well organized, informative, and easy to followMany artists have attended his workshops multiple times, and seen significant progress in their own art.
